Kelly Wearstler will feature Ruben’s artwork within the Harper West Hollywood Condominiums in Los Angeles. As stated on the development’s website, the Harper West Hollywood is a four-story modern lofts-style condominium complex built in 2009. The complex includes a rooftop pool and two ground-floor restaurants.
According to Ruben, his artwork complements the style and aesthetic of the new development and will involve a custom process that involves close coordination with Kelly Wearstler’s staff, to create miniature mockups of the final artwork and assemble work samples in a diptych. A diptych is composed of two panels working together as one. Ruben is in the process of gathering all necessary materials and working in his studio at downtown Bridgeport's Arcade Mall.
He credits the Create Here Now Program with allowing him the opportunity to leave a more traditional textile design firm so he could specialize in developing his own fiber art creations. Create Here Now was initiated in 2013 for the purpose of activating storefronts in the Historic Arcade Mall with artists seeking to form enterprises.
The program was implemented by a partnership including Margaret Bodell, previously of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, the Bridgeport DSSD and Ginsburg Development Corp.
In addition to Ruben, Create Here Now has helped spur artist/entrepreneurs including Liz Squillace of Paradox Ink, Phillip Post of Dertbag and Rahzul Branch of BPT Creates.
Ruben’s work in West Hollywood is a sign of the success of the Create Here Now Program, which allows artists the time and space to create- - enabling such projects and connections to form -- and signals the growth of the downtown Bridgeport’s arts community.
